I will listen
Pulling out some of my old piano music, I stumbled across an old Twila Paris song called "I Will Listen." As I played the song on the piano and sang the words, the lyrics because so alive and real to me. Such a simple statement such as "I will listen" has so much meaning to it. When we say to God, "I will listen," we are making not just a statement but a promise. We are not saying that we'll just listen when we want to or listen when it is convenient. We're saying we will listen all the time. No matter what happens and no matter what road He places us on, we will not tune Him out or shut Him off. Also, when we promise to listen, we are claiming to not just let it go in one ear and out the other. Rather, we are to take what the Lord says to heart. And think about it! What a privilege it is to be able to listen to His voice! If we are able to to hear His voice, then we are alive in Him (John 5:25; 18:37b).
I pray that you and I never forget the promise, the privilege, and the ability to listen to His voice. May we never take this phrase lightly.
Here are the lyrics to Twila Paris' song...
This is the faith
Patience to wait
When there is nothing clear
Nothing to see
Still we believe
Jesus is very near
I can not imagine what will come
But I've already made my choice
And this is where I stand
Until He moves me on
Could it be that He is only waiting there to see
If I will learn to love the dreams
that He has dreamed for me
Can't imagine what the future holds
But I've already made my choice
And this is where I stand
Until He moves me on
And I will listen to His voice
I pray that you and I never forget the promise, the privilege, and the ability to listen to His voice. May we never take this phrase lightly.
Here are the lyrics to Twila Paris' song...
Hard as it seems
Standing in dreams
Where is the dreamer now
Wonder if I
Wanted to try
Would I remember how
I don't know the way to go from here
But I know I have made my choice
And this is where I stand
Until He moves me on
Standing in dreams
Where is the dreamer now
Wonder if I
Wanted to try
Would I remember how
I don't know the way to go from here
But I know I have made my choice
And this is where I stand
Until He moves me on
And I will listen to His voice
This is the faith
Patience to wait
When there is nothing clear
Nothing to see
Still we believe
Jesus is very near
I can not imagine what will come
But I've already made my choice
And this is where I stand
Until He moves me on
And I will listen to His voice
Could it be that He is only waiting there to see
If I will learn to love the dreams
that He has dreamed for me
Can't imagine what the future holds
But I've already made my choice
And this is where I stand
Until He moves me on
And I will listen to His voice
